  • https://centrocoasting.com/Information about bus connections in Central America (El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama).
  • Chicken Bus: it is the cheapest travel option in Central America. Mostly they are old American school buses. In some big cities e. g. Guatemala City they warn you to take the chicken bus due to safety reasons. However it is not dangerous to take it in most cities especially in smaller towns. Just be alert on your luggage and valuable items.
  • trains: there are no train connections in Central America except some few routes in Costa Rica
  • bus station: Unfortunately there are no central bus stations in Central America in big cities / capitals because every bus company has its own bus station. The only exemption is Panama City with the central bus station Albrook.
  • Guatemala city to Antigua: you can take the chicken bus for less than 2 USD however it is a little bit risky therefore there are many tourist shuttles which charge between 15 – 20 USD (also directly to the airport).

Entry / Exit fees:

  • Honduras: 3 USD entrance fee
  • Nicaragua: 14 USD entrance and 2 USD exit fee
  • Costa Rica: 10 USD exit fee

(1) Some tourist shuttles also offer a direct connection from Flores to Antigua however they are more expensive.
(2) Gekko Explorer and other agencies offer a tourist shuttle which directly goes from Antigua to Santa Ana / El Salvador however it is more expensive.
(3) Speedboat from San Salvador (La Union) to Nicaragua (Potosi) which bypassed Honduras. When you pay more then the bus from Santa Ana until Leon is included. It is a sped boat so you might get wet during the trip. The offer is mostly taken by British citizens who need a visa for Honduras.
(4) Nicabus, Transnica and Transporte Del Sol are other bus companies which DON'T stop in Granada.
