Egypt

  • https://enr.gov.eg/o-city/obs/enr/railway/en/bookticketsEgypt railway. Tourists have to pay a 350 % surcharge. Until now the tickets can’t be acquired online but only at the Egypt railway station. The website only indicates the local price e. g. 50 EGP = 50 EGP x 350 % = 175 EGP. Railway go from Alexandria, Cairo, Luxor until Aswan (no couchette). Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh have no train connection so you have to take the bus.

  • Highspeed railway: the first route should be opened in 2027 and will connect the cities Alexandria, Cairo, Luxor, Assuan and Hurghada.

  • https://www.abmaritime.com.jo/?lang=en: daily Jordan ferry from Nuweiba (3 hours) und 3 x weekly from Taba / border Israel (1 hour) to Aqaba / Jordan which bypasses Israel. You should be there 3 hours before departure and the ferry often has delays of 2 hours (but it can depart earlier too) therefore please schedule a lot of waiting time. The ferry teminal from Aqaba (for the Nuwaiba ferry) is 10 km away from the city center (each taxi 5 JOD = 6 €). The ferry fares are quite high (see table below) but the route via Israel / Eilat is not much cheaper either because Israel charges an exit fee at the border to Aqaba / Taba of 109 ILS = 30 €. If you furthermore plan to travel to countries like e. g. Iraq, Kuwait, Pakistan, etc. then you will risk an entry ban due to the Israelian pass stamp (on the basis of the Egypt exit stamp in Taba they can derive that you have been to Israel).
  • https://cairometro.gov.eg/en/MapsMetro Cairo, 8 EGP / 0,15 € for 8 stations. Unfortunately not every location is accessible with the metro e. g pyramids (disembark at metro station Giza and use the bus / minibus).

It can be acquired online as e-visa in advance or as visa-on-arrival at the airport (but not available on all land border crossings). A multiple-entry-visa for 180 days costs 60 USD.
  • Visa free for 14 days only on the Sinai peninsula (Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab). You are not allowed to go to Cairo or Hurghada because it is only limited to the Sinai peninsula.
